Conversa offers a robust online Spanish program, designed to help students to really engage in the language. To do this, we combine different types of learning opportunities to ensure that the material being covered is fresh and varied.
The primary component of our Spanish program is the live instruction. We’ve been in the business of teaching Spanish as a second language for almost fifty years. During this time, we’ve rarely met anyone who became proficient in the language without taking a significant number of hours of structured Spanish classes. This is how students become comfortable in the language, and it’s how to make the quickest progress. Group instruction is better than no instruction, and one-on-one instruction is as good as it gets. However, not all Spanish teachers are created equal, and this is another area where we focus a lot of attention.
Conversa’s Spanish teachers have, on average, more than 21 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language. In addition, we’ve been teaching Spanish online since 2007, meaning that out teachers aren’t just experienced Spanish teachers, they’re experienced Online Spanish teachers. This track record has also helped us to develop a robust set of tools that our teachers can use to reinforce the student’s learning, both inside the classroom, and out.
Among the tools that we use to teach Spanish online, we have the Student Progression Matrix. This is a behind-the-scenes matrix that helps guide the teachers along the usual learning path. Along the way, the matrix provides teachers with suggestions of materials and activities that can work well for the student, given the student’s level and what type of material has been shared with them in the past. It also provides a way for the teacher to share content quickly and seamlessly with the student, meaning that the student, in addition to their live Spanish classes, will also have a healthy dose of supporting material.
And then there were the workshops… We’ve been offering live workshops for our student community since we started teaching Spanish online over fifteen years ago. Since then, we’ve offered over 3,500 online activities for our community, and we’ve developed a variety of engaging formats for our workshops, such that the students are engaged in the language and participate actively.
